Ivan Christie, also known as Natchylus the Guitarist, has made a significant contribution to the music industry from 1978 to the present day. His musical journey began at just seven years old, when his father taught him to play guitar and introduced him to Jamaican popular music through the family radiogram. That early foundation developed into a lifelong commitment to music, performance and the preservation of reggae culture.

Over more than four decades, Ivan has performed, recorded, arranged and worked alongside an impressive range of established artists. His UK performance credits include Sandra Cross, Sylvia Tella, Peter Hunnigale, Carroll Thompson, Janet Kay, Vincent Nap, Vivian Jones, Trevor Walters and The Investigators, among many others.

His international and global credits span an extraordinary breadth of reggae, soul and popular music, including artists such as The Wailers, John Holt, Mykal Rose, The Manhattans, Millie Jackson, Jean Carne, Alton Ellis, Jimmy Cliff, Morgan Heritage, Max Romeo, Buju Banton, Luciano, Culture, Ken Boothe, Burning Spear, Third World, James Brown, Elton John, The Fugees, Christopher Ellis, Little Roy, Richie Spice, Mikey Spice, Gappy Ranks, Josey Wales, Susan Cadogan, Levi Roots and Toyin Adekale.

Ivan's work has extended beyond live performance. He has contributed to recording, musical arrangement and production, appearing across numerous music platforms, including performances and material showcased through the BBC and social media.

​

His own album, Cool Reggae, was released on 1 May 2020 and subsequently led to further media, performance and promotional opportunities, including an interview with Bushman on Roots FM in 2021.

Continuing the Journey

 

Ivan's work has continued to expand in recent years. He has performed at major reggae and lovers rock events, including the Giants of Lovers Rock Show at the Indigo at The O2, the Bournemouth Reggae Festival, SKAMOUTH Festival and Reading Reggae Festival. He has toured internationally, including performing in Switzerland with Max Romeo and the Charmax Band during the final major touring leg of Max Romeo's career, and in Portugal with the One Unification Tour, backing legendary artists including The Heptones and Johnny Clarke.

He has also continued working with The Ruff Cutt Band, performing alongside established artists and contributing to major musical events. His recent work includes studio recording, live band video projects and support for reggae artists.

​

In July 2026, Ivan recorded, arranged and produced Black Beauty through Natchylus Studio Productions — a track written and performed by Rare Diamond. He has also continued to support gospel music and developing musicians.

Beyond Performance

 

Ivan is also the author of The History and Development of Reggae Music, reflecting his passion for documenting and preserving the history and cultural development of the music that has shaped his life.

​

He has taught guitar for many years, with some of his students going on to become highly skilled guitarists performing internationally. His current studio provides a dedicated environment for recording and production, alongside space for guitar tuition and music classes.

​

Today, Ivan brings together professional musicianship, production, teaching, technical engineering and decades of industry experience. His studio was established to further support the production, development and promotion of reggae and related music, while providing opportunities for artists and developing musicians to learn, record and create.

​

From a seven-year-old boy learning guitar from his father to an internationally experienced guitarist, producer, teacher and author, Ivan Christie's journey continues to be deeply rooted in music, culture and the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next.
